Moving on...

Oh  my it has been a long time since I have opened a new post page. I almost don't remember how to do it. Well my absence has been due to a job change. I began teaching at a new school and most of my creative energy and energy in general was spent to this new endeavor. No time to blog and no energy to do so either. But there is news at the Burrow. We have decided to move! We finished most of the burrow projects and well.... we just felt ready for another challenge, another round of painting, and late night trips to home improvement stores. We are closing in just a few weeks on our new home and are getting ready to put burrow 1.0 on the market. It makes us a little sad to say good bye to our first house project but we are proud of the work we have done and also a little wiser for all those mistakes we made on the way. As we cleaned and scoured our little home top to bottom we made notes of all the next times, and never will agains.  I decided to do a few more posts on the burrow dedicated to before and afters. And in just a few weeks we will start  a new chapter on our blog. The burrow will continue because it goes with us and there will be more projects and dreaming and ohhh God help us PAINTING!

A well deserved break

LEAVE A MESSAGE WE ARE SKIING...

We took a break from house projects to ski the fresh pow! Sometimes it good to forget about our long to-do list of house projects and have fun. But lately in order to fully let go of those lists we have to get out of town. Our favorite winter time activity is to drive to the mountains and ski (well I snowboard).

I love driving through the tunnel on I-70, when you get to the other side it feels like you have entered a whole new universe. Breckenridge is like a year round Christmas town and home to my most favorite treat Giampetros Pizza. This year I have finally retired my extra large helmet and got a used new one! I didn't realize my too big helmet made me look like a mushroom head.  I have also finally felt confident enough to retire the right wrist brace. I no longer semi cringe thinking about a day of snowboarding. I can rage down blacks and just almost keep up with David on skis. Maybe next year I will be ready for the half-pipe. Or maybe not...in my adult hood I have developed a healthy fear of pain and trees. That fear will hopefully keep me skiing all season long.

Ready for dinner!

You are welcome at any time!

I think I change the table settings a little too often. I just want to be ready to host dinner at a moments notice. I will be ready if anyone just happens to pop by. But it seems people just don't pop anymore. Over Christmas we spent the week at a BnB and the host, Sharon, had pop over friends. It brought me so much joy to watch those special kinds of relationships. Margene would just walk into Sharon's house and say, "hey there I came for some coffee." So this is my big hint to my friends...POP ON OVER! Somebody better come otherwise my pretty table arrangements will just go to waste.

One of a kind table

In our entry way there is a one of a kind table. My father in law, Mike Brey, made it for us as a wedding gift. We used this table as an alter for communion during our wedding ceremony.

Photo taken by Kelli Lyn Photography

He submitted this table to a woodworking competition and it took first prize. I am very proud to showcase this work of art in our entry and on our blog.

The table has two sliding drawers and has very unique details

Now that David and I are nesting it is exciting to begin collecting those one of a kind pieces that will stay with our family forever.

We've Officially Moved

We now live at 1812 Belmar!

We really moved in almost a month ago....since that time we have put a lot of projects on hold. We both needed a much needed break from projecting. Instead we have been decorating and shopping on macys.com and repurposing all those wedding gift cards we received! It took almost two weeks just to get our closet set up (it was a challenge splitting it 75/25 but I made my 1 and half side work) and we didn't own a couch or kitchen chairs for at least 2 weeks. Most of our furniture came from craigslist or a thrift store/flea market or free road side picks ups or made by David Brey.
Yet to do....

  • window coverings
  • hang pictures
  • unpack MISC boxes (we've all got em)
  • install closet doors
  • wait for new area rugs to arrive
  • stain/paint kitchen chairs
  • install fireplace stone
  • install window trim
  • throw a christmas party
To get the moving process going I had a surprise day off from work the Friday of labor day weekend due to "excessive heat!" I mean it was 87 degrees in my room at one point. The 5 year olds would flop over on the carpet during math time. We deserved it. :) It was like God gave me the gift of time. I spent that whole Friday packing up our knick-knacks and forget-me-nots.  I lamented over how much stuff we had. Then David came home and we packed up the bedroom and all the big furniture. Then we drove over to Belmar to spend our first night there. We opened a bottle of champaign we were given at our wedding and David gave me a housewarming gift, a photo book of our honeymoon pictures! We spent the rest of the weekend unpacking and unpacking and unpacking.

Our First House

On August 2nd David and I closed on our first home together. It is a 2 bedroom townhouse right up against the foothills. The living areas and kitchen are upstairs while the bedrooms are at garden level. The house needs updating and we can't wait to going on our renovation project.

Here is our master plan:
  • rip out floating closet
  • put in hardwood through the whole house
  • new trim and crown moulding
  • paint and add trim to the existing cabinets
  • new counter tops
  • new appliances
  • wainscot
  • update bathrooms
  • spice up the fireplace
  • sun tube
  • new window in the master bedroom
  • sliding barn doors
  • built ins around the fire place
  • can lighting in the bedroom and kitchen
  • make a custom pantry closet
  • buy cheap furniture and make cute
Oh and did we mention we are giving our selves a little less than 4 weeks to do most of the work and our budget is also not so big. David and I both love challenging projects so here we go...

First round of moving stuff over (staying in the garage till we move in)
