Our home sweet home was missing it home-i-ness until the fireplace was done. Its hard to remember our once, outdated and awkward, floating mantle with bathroom tiles to adorn our wood burning fireplace. I believe we removed the old look the first day of demolition.
Here is a look at once was....
| David and Dan removed the white tile that made up the hearth. The golden glass doors were tossed to the garbage heap. |
| We took the surrounding tile and whoops took the drywall with it. |
| We replaced the wall with concrete board |
| Then we let it sit for awhile (4 months) |
| We bought slate tiles with lots of orange and gray! |
| We rented a tile saw. |
Getting ready to cut
| Half size tiles to make the alternating pattern |
David loves to tile so I let him just have at it.
| David used spacers to evenly place tiles |
| Now to wait for the mortar to dry |
