Hardwood Heaven

Belmar was covered with ugly blue grey carpet from top to bottom. The only spots that weren't carpeted were the two bathrooms, the kitchen, and the laundry nook. So pretty much everywhere. We decided to chuck out every inch of carpet in the place and add hardwood floors. After much debate over the color, style, and price - we picked out hardwood from lumber liquidators. We chose a Golden Teak Acacia wood that would go both in the upstairs and downstairs rooms. However for the downstairs we picked pre-engineered click lock with 5 inch boards and for the upstairs we selected solid hard wood 8 inch planks. The click ins were better for installing on the downstairs concrete floors and the 8 inch planks were better upstairs because of how awesome they are.

New Floors!

Old Carpet :(

We decided to start with the downstairs (because it only needed 48 hours to acclimate). The in-laws came in town to help. It was great to have David's Dad come and help us.

The Process:
First lay down purple vapor barrier. This keeps wicks moisture and prevents the wood from expanding on the concrete. It also make the floors warmer, less likely to by creaky and makes it nice and bouncy to walk on.

Next lay down floor - here the men are measuring for smaller pieces
There were three types of saws used, all of them made lots of dust but here David is cutting a piece
The start of the second bedroom, these floors click in.
 chopping
 Final Product!

It took about 12 hours for them to finish two bedrooms and a hallway. Next weekend they will tackle the upstairs flooring. Not sure if it will be easier or harder. The downstairs had a lot of turns and detailed sections whereas the upstairs is a big square but each board has to be nailed. We are in love! They look even better after we cleaned them and slid around on our socks!
