Old Kitchen
(notice the bottle of dom - we are gonna drink it the first night we sleep there!)
Our kitchen is far from updated. It came complete with unembelished veneer cabinet doors that have very little organizational (is that a real word) sense. If you notice the kitchen has 5 corner points (2 up and 3 down), each of these turns have reach ins instead of corner cabinets. So in order to get items in the back of the cabinet you have to pull out everything that is in front and then put your head inside to reach all the way to the back. This was probably done cause it was the cheapest. So there is tons of dead space in each corner. You can buy these "blind corner wire units" (which we may do eventually but they cost $300 so all in good time.
With this dilemma the first thing that had to be decided was, were we going to install all new cabinets or make it work with what we got. We went to ikea and spent 3 hours designing and 15,000 dollar dream kitchen. We went on craigslist to look for free kitchens but most of those required us to do all the demo and pull out and we just didn't have the time. Then we researched adding trim to already existing cabinets and how to paint a veneer. We decided to go this rout that way we would save thousands of dollars. We also decided to chuck out the existing peninsula and build a new one with a lazy susan and 18 inch cabinet for garbage. The new peninsula would be moved 6 inches toward the window to open up the kitchen a bit more. We also decided to add a overhang to the end to create a bar seat. So our friends can sit at the bar and drink wine while I cook for them!
Kitchen Master Plan
Add trim to all existing doors
Paint all cabinets - bavarian creme
Add hardware (knobs and pulls) - dark brass or copper
New stainless appliances - samsung line
New light fixtures - undecided
New backsplash - maybe copper tin
New Counters - grey quartz
New Sink - stainless double bowl
New Faucet - dark brushed bronze
move or remove existing peninsula and replace with lazy susan and 18 inch cabinet
crown molding to upper cabinets
build upper cabinets up to make it look like 42 inchers
add under lighting and upper lighting
trim around existing window
paint walls
I will keep things updated as we tackle each item
